Can You Believe It: Quake Turns 20 Years Old This Year

There are so many legendary games in the first person shooter genre. There is Wolfenstein, which has recently made a comeback. There is Doom, which will be rebooted once again this year. There is Shadow Warrior, which has revived as well, there’s Daikatana, and Duke Nukem, which has returned to life after over a decade in development limbo. But all these pale next to the one legendary game that has changed the face of shooters forever, adding a true third dimension to the game: Quake. And it turns twenty this year.

Unlike some other legendary games from the 1990s, Quake was never rebooted. Some games were revived over the years, others got adapted to the big or small screen, like Hitman and Tomb Raider, both of them with movie versions, among the best Red Flush casino games. Quake had two mission packs and four sequels, but none of them continued the Lovecraftian visuals and story behind the original title.

Quake was the first FPS to feature truly 3D characters and a truly 3D environment. Its visuals, albeit dated by today’s standards, meant a huge jump compared to the plainness of all its predecessors. If you have ever played Duke Nukem 3D, Wolfenstein or even Doom, you know what I mean. In any of those, you could not walk around the objects and monsters you encountered – they were always facing you, and they were plain.

Quake was the game that has introduced my gang of PC gamers into the world of LAN parties and deathmatches, as well as online play. I remember taking on a Russian team on a 14.4kbps dial-up connection. If any of today’s CS:GO players would have ever tried to play on such a connection, they would have committed suicide. Although it only had six deathmatch maps included, we played them repeatedly, and grew to know them by heart. We even organized our local Quake tournaments, and considered John Carmack and John Romero to be the prophets of video games.

I think the 20th anniversary of the game’s release would be the perfect occasion for id Software to finally return to the dark realms of Quake and release a game with the same dark, Lovecraftian visuals. Oh, and with the original Quake soundtrack, created by Trent Reznor and the Nine Inch Nails. The gloomy world of fiends, shamblers and shotgun-wielding guardians could really use a visual upgrade. I would love to immerse once again into the dark dimension inhabited by Shamblers, and take on Shub Niggurath once more. And explore further into the world that offered me so much fantastic entertainment as a child.

The Future of Online Gambling: AI, Smart Technology and More

The Future of Online Gambling: AI, Smart Technology and More.

It seems to talk about the future of online gambling, particularly when you consider how dramatically the discipline has evolved over the course of the last five years. During this time, some of the most fanciful trends and concepts have come to fruition, creating an immersive and increasingly realistic marketplace that is popular among gamers.

Despite this, the future is set to be even more dramatic in the field of online gambling, as a number of existing trends enter the mainstream and new developments also begin to take hold. This is something for all demographics to look forward too, whether you are a sports betting fan or a frequenter of the best new bingo sites.

The future of Online Gambling in 3, simple steps

So what does the future have in line for online gambling? Let’s take a look at some of the most prominent trends: –

The Establishment of Virtual and Augmented reality

Virtual reality (and to a lesser extent augmented reality) has been talked about for years, but it was not until recently that it has entered the mainstream. The coming months will see this technology establish itself in the consumer marketplace, however, with a host of products competing at both lower and higher ends of the spectrum.

From an online gambling perspective, it is augmented reality that will have the greatest impact in the market. Innovative headsets such as Microsoft’s HoloLens will undoubtedly lead the way here, replicating corporeal and three-dimensional casino backdrops within the comfort of your own home.

The rise of AI (Artificial Intelligence) and social Media as Gambling Tools

While the random number generators which underpin online bingo and casino gaming are impossible to pre-empt, there is a growing trend for predicting movements in the sports betting market. As a result of this there are numerous developers to develop algorithms that trawl social media news feeds and updates, in a bid to seek out intangibles and defy even the most detailed statistics.

This meld of AI and social media could increase the efficiency of specific bets by up to 5%, and while this technology is not fully developed yet it is definitely in the pipeline for the future.

Smart Technology will revolutionise mobile gambling

Mobile technology is a major driver of online gambling in 2016, with smartphones beginning to dominate the marketplace. Tablets are quickly becoming influential too, with the revenue generated by these devices set to double between 2013 and 2018.

In the future, however, we will also see smart technology and wearable gadgets change the way in which in which players gamble online. More specifically, these devices will offer users instant access to online casino and bingo platforms, enabling them to play their favourites games on the move without having to remove their smartphone from their pocket.

While this is little more than a subtle evolution of existing technology, it will change the nature of online gambling forever.

Gaming to improve your brain function

cognitive gaming

I’ve used gaming to improve my physical health, playing games like the XBOX One Fitness app and games like Just Dance. But as I get older, I’m thinking a little more about caring for my brain health, too, not just my fitness level for heart and lungs and weight.

Several studies, like this one from the Max Planck Institute, have found in the last few years that video gaming causes an increase in the brain regions responsible for spatial orientation, memory formation and strategic planning as well as fine motor skills. Other research also shows that spatial orientation and memory formation clearly improve (especially in girls who appear to improve more than boys).

In the study, people played the Super Mario 64 video game and their brains were monitored before and after the session. It was found that there are positive effects of video gaming that may be useful in therapeutic interventions targeting psychiatric disorders. The video gaming group showed increases of gray matter in the right hippocampus, right prefrontal cortex and the cerebellum, measured using MRI.

Ageing is a daunting process, partly because some of the first things to go are memory, attention and motor skills. The idea that some form of regular mental activity—doing a crossword, for example—can postpone mental decline is not new. Now researchers have found another: playing certain types of interactive games could help the elderly stay sharper for longer.

So there is reason to think video game training enhances cognitive control in older adults. ‘Serious gaming’ and dementia friendly design innovation and new research on how video games improve aging brains is apparently the way to go to extend our cognitive abilities for future generations.

With all that data to show how we can retain our cognitive functions as we age, here’s my recommended gaming activities:

For mobile games, there’s lots of options, you can even find games specifically targeting improving cognition. My mobile recommendation here is to choose a Mystery Game!
Put on your detective hat and grab your favorite magnifying glass, mystery games will have you puzzling out crimes, murders, or other stranger unknowns. What is that strange light in the sky? Where does that underground passage lead? Time to find yourself some answers.

If you’re new to mystery games, here’s my recommendation Layton Brothers Mystery Room, this is an editor’s choice on iTunes and GooglePlay store. It’s more than mystery, it’s a puzzle adventure video game. While it’s a little old, it’s very popular and lots of fun! Check the video trailer.

Another option for you is playing American roulette, it’s a very leisurely form of recreation and easy to get caught up in the excitement of the game.

There’s also the console games for XBOX One & Playstation, take your pick. First person shooters in my opinion give the most bang for the buck with visual and aural stimulation while requiring a fast neural response time as you interact with AI bots and other players. Examples include Halo 5 or Playstation’s VR version of Star Wars Battlefront.

NetEnt Set To Release Jimi Hendrix Slot

jimi hendrix

One of the industry-leading slot machine developers, Net Entertainment, have just announced two additional releases in their NetEnt Rocks series of games – Jimi Hendrix and Motörhead

The first one, Guns N’ Roses was a major hit, perhaps the most successful slot game of all time. Expectations are definitely high now and it will be interesting to see whether the two new games will just be re-skins of the previous or will actually feature a new set of features.

We really hope it’s the latter and feel that players would be very disappointed, should the games be even a little bit similar.

MicroGaming have done this for ages now, and most of their new games are simply re-designed versions of others. We’ve talked with many players and majority of them have moved away from playing these games for this exact reason.

When Is The Game Going Live?

Jimi Hendrix is expected to go live at major NetEnt casinos at the end of April. Make sure you follow the status of the game, as the first few days of these slots will be huge. Most casinos will throw bonus offers at you like there is no tomorrow.

Fan Site

For any updates regarding this game release, check out the fan site of Jimi Hendrix slot where you’ll find up to date information on the status of this game, exclusive sneak previews and thousands in bonuses for you to use.

The site seems not to be affiliated with Net Entertainment and must be created by a third party slot enthusiast.

Watch Out For Free Spins Offers

When Guns N’ Roses slot went live in January, there were approximately 10,000 free spins that could of had been claimed on it. Some were no-deposit while the most valuable deals were almost always given away for a small deposit.

Make sure to frequent the fan site we just listed, as they seem to be covering these offers and have connections with major online casino sites. This will likely lead to some exclusive offers that you would otherwise not have access to.

What is the best platform to enjoy slots on?

Slot machines have been popular for a long time, and are one of the oldest staples of any casino floor. In recent years, with the improvements in technology, the evolution of the slot machine has stepped up a few notches. Now there are limitless possibilities with the games, the machines, and where they can be played. Online casinos have sprouted up everywhere and slot machines have fit well into this format. Now players can even download some of the games to their smartphone. So what is the best platform to play on? Can playing on a smartphone compare to the buzz of playing on the casino floor?

Some gamblers would argue no. They would say that there is no way that the thrill of playing the slots in a real-life casino could be matched. It is true that some of the factors that make the slots so exciting in casinos can’t be replicated online. Some people certainly do get a real buzz from the atmosphere, the hustle and bustle all around them, and the other gamblers sharing the same range of emotions. But online casinos do have their advantages as well.

One of the main reasons that people play online casinos is that they are easily accessible to people with busy schedules. Some gamblers just don’t have the time to go to the casino to get their slot machine fix. Online casinos can also be a lot simpler to use for newcomers, with detailed instructions about how to play the games. Beginners can feel more comfortable playing games for the first time in their home environment. Another advantage is, with the emergence of bitcoin casinos like, depositing funds has never been easier. These factors and many more have led to a massive rise in popularity for online casinos, and it was only a matter of time before the format was made available for smartphones and tablets.

With the wide variety of games that are already available for iPhone and android, the developers knew that people liked to play on the move. Slot games work well in this format, too, and it is ideal for busy people who don’t get chance to sit down and gamble at their computer.

All things considered, if you are someone who likes to play slot machines, you will enjoy them on any of the various platforms. With technology gamblers can find even more opportunities to enjoy their favorite games, wherever they are.

Can Gaming Actually Provide Positive Impacts?

gaming health

Progression of video games has come a long way, from simple plots and backgrounds to challenging, complex design and the level of development is certainly estimable. The evidence is escalating, that the advantages of playing video games go far beyond improving the hand-eye coordination and entertainment. Here I’m going to mention a few interesting ways through which playing games are possibly producing smarter, more versatile individuals.

Although sometimes very repetitive, a great deal of video games require the player to perform quick hand movements, along with being able to keep eye contact with objects on the screen; sometimes at a considerable rate of speed. These actions train your reflexes, and can provide a steadier hand when performing common or specialized work or tasks. The same can be said for a person’s visual acuity. Gamers are frequently required to memorize and keep track of several objects or pieces of information in quick succession in order to win.

Playing games can also possibly reduce pain and stress levels. Concentrating on a game for long periods of time can actually divert the mind from physical pain, while performing repetitive or casual tasks (i.e. golf, etc) may also be a de-stressor and calm the mind. Some games are even geared specifically towards these goals, such as Nintendo’s Color Zen game.

Personally, one game that I find fits all of these categories is playing online slots! In addition to all of the qualities I listed above, you can also win some real money! Try out vegas slots for size and perhaps you can increase your bankroll along with having a hopping good time. Recently I’ve discovered a new place to play that offers free slots no download no registration that has kept me entertained for good clean fun!

Winning With Online Roulette:  Tips and tricks

So you’re interested in spinning the big wheel and make some of your hard earned cash grow into piles of loot?  Whip out that credit card, because the smoothest way to bump your cash flow through gambling is to hit some online roulette!  Not sure about your game?  Fear of losing all your greenbacks instead of gaining?  Shake no more, because I’m going to impart some quick and easy tips that you can follow that may ensure your success.  (Not a guarantee)

First off, don’t buy anything that calls itself a guaranteed roulette plan.  The fastest way you can be parted from your cash is to buy into someone else’s idea of a system that claims an assurance of winning at roulette.  Random is random, folks, there are no guarantees when it comes to roulette.  There are no guarantees!  Trust your own intuition and do what feels right.

Second is choosing your game.  There are so many variants to chose from, it’s impossible to say which might be your game until you try a few out.  A great deal of them are themed, so pick your poison that way.  Enjoy a variety of different games and don’t be overwhelmed by all the choices.

Your goal is to enjoy the games and to have as much fun as possible.  Don’t rush yourself and familiarize yourself with the rules of each game as you go along.  Play normally, but gain as much information as you can as you play so that you can make informed bets as you continue in each game.

Set a limit and stick with it.   There may be a big win over the horizon, but better to be safe than sorry.  Don’t go over your budget – know when to quit.

Finally, don’t be afraid to use the help facilities.  That’s exactly what they are there for.  You have questions?  There are answers!  And if your question isn’t answered through the site’s F.A.Q. (Frequently Answered Questions), then don’t hesitate to use any live chat options that are available.  These are knowledgeable people who know that site’s capabilities and can help you make any informed decisions.

So, to give you a kickstart into your virtual vacation into the land of roulette; let me recommend a site that I have had much fun through.  This UK online roulette site has a huge variety of games to try out.  Give it a shot; you never know, you might snag that huge cash flow you’re after!

The Waiting is the Hardest Part…

The Waiting is the Hardest Part…

Here’s the thing about games: you can never have enough. No matter how many incredible virtual worlds we’ve experienced, there’s always something new on the horizon to get us excited for the next big game all over again. Even though there are plenty of stellar games to enjoy in the here and now, it’s never too early to get excited for what’s coming, and what could be.

If you’re a PC gamer this December, you certainly have more to look forward to than your console counterparts, though a bunch of those games do seem to be re-releases or ports.

Let’s start off with that’s new shall we?

Just Cause 3 – December 1

If you play GTA games for the mayhem then the Just Cause series was probably made for you. Taking the open world formula and then adding in pure, unadulterated chaos is Just Cause’s specialty, and if you’re up for a healthy dose of mayhem, then Just Cause 3 will serve it up in spades.  This is personally one of my favorite games of all time, there is just literally nothing you cannot do in this extremely detailed open world environment. Once again, it’s up to Rico Rodriguez to set off to a fictional island, and put a stop to an evil dictator bent on world domination.  From grappling cows to wind turbines, to zipping between buildings at high speed in your wingsuit, to hijacking jets or helicopters while in flight!  Having played both the original Just Cause and Just Cause 2, I am extremely excited about this new release.

Online slots for when you just need some down time.

Dracula slot

We’ve all been there. You’ve played your games and you’re either bored, or just need something different for a while. Your mind is frazzled, hands are sore for the last few hours of button stabbing and your eyes a bit blurry from staring at your TV screen the whole time. Well, there’s an online slot game that will get your adrenaline going with the spooky tale of the most famous vampire of them all in Dracula online video game! Net Entertainment’s Dracula slot game is brilliantly designed and there’s loads of thrills and wins!

How could we not bring up online slots? You can play and practice Dracula slots for free so you can play with real money. With each spin, you can trigger loads of prizes, free spins, and bonuses–just watch out for the blood-sucking bats! Come down from your gaming high and enter a new high: playing Dracula slot! I personally find it rewarding and think you should give it a try and see how you fare. This game sends chills up and down my spine and definitely kept me engaged the entire time.

It’s a nice change of scenery from gaming and maybe if you get lucky and hit that mega win, you can save up to buy the next big gaming release you want for your PC!

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege – December 1

If you’re more of a team player and want to take part in some anti-terrorist action, then Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege will be right up your alley. While it may not be the Rainbow Six: Patriots game I’ve wanted since it was announced, this might just be the next best thing.

Originally, this game had a very rocky start throughout the Beta earlier this year.  Bugs were aplenty, and the gameplay, while entertaining for it’s genre, fell far short of it’s promise to extreme tactical and close combat warfare.  It’s newest iteration, however, in the currently running open beta, has cleaned up a majority of the bugs, and spicing up the gameplay for the players with new player modes and added player types and specializations.

This is another game that I am really looking forward to, as I have played a majority of the previous Rainbow Six genre.  There’s nothing like the feeling of grabbing your favorite guns and tactical gear and tearing through your enemies in combat!

While the game may be multiplayer focused, it will also include a few solo variants such as Terrorist Hunt, which will have you fending off against waves of attackers.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands – TBA (2016)

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands is the first military shooter set in a massive and responsive open world, according to Ubisoft. It’s set in Bolivia, a few years from now where the country has become the largest cocaine producer in the world. It’s playable in 4 player co-op mode or solo.  This is a massive step for the previous “mostly” single player games; yes, it most of the previous titles had multiplayer, but not on a grand scale such as this.

“The Santa Blanca drug cartel has turned the country into a narco-state, leading to lawlessness, injustice, and violence. The Ghosts, an elite US Special Forces team, is sent behind enemy lines to wreak havoc and takedown the cartel,” said Ubisoft.

Do yourself a favor and search out one of the many gameplay videos on Youtube and feast your eyes on the splendor of this fantastic game.  No linear gameplay at all, you can come and go as you please, choosing to accept or deny any of the missions that happen to be near your location.  Learn to be a cohesive unit in multiplayer with your friends as you reign destruction on the various cartels gripping Bolivia in their iron fists.  I can’t wait to get my hands on this…one of the highest rated games to be released for 2016.

Rise of the Tomb Raider – TBA (2016)

The latest installment of the Tomb Raider franchise is easily the best one yet, with massive set pieces and gripping action.  Rise of the Tomb Raider tells the story of young Lara Croft, alone in a dangerous place, exploring ruins, solving puzzles, and shooting lots of guys with flaming arrows. It combines hunter/gatherer elements—where you need to scavenge for the stuff you need to survive or make weapons—with a mix of melee and ranged combat with pickaxes, guns or a bow and arrow.  This reboot of the previous 2013 game is a refreshing view of how things should have been.  More tombs, interactive gameplay, dramatic cinematics and a crap-load of hubs with multiple missions to complete.  The story is engaging from start to finish and even after the story is done, you unlock an expedition mode, where there a ton more challenges that you can attempt!  Chicken bombs, anyone?

In all, I will look forward to trying this game out after its upcoming release date.  I have always been a fan of Lara Croft, and it doesn’t look llike this game will disappoint.

Trends and observations in online gaming

I’ve noticed a few interesting things going on in the online gaming business. From mobile games, to games stimulating brain functions and online gaming.

Virtual Reality:

I learned recently that global game revenue is over US$70 billion, this is bigger than box office ticket sales (but smaller than total filmed entertainment revenue when home video is taken into account). This is huge, and I venture to guess that we’re far from peaking in gaming revenue especially when you take into account the advent of virtual reality technology that is about to explode into the causal gamer’s experience (see Oculus, Playstation VR and HaloLens). Virtual Reality is trying to push the boundaries of media consumption by creating an immersive experience unmatched by previous formats. Here’s an example of the VR games: Sail the seas as a peg-legged pirate in this immersive VR game Vroom:Galleon.

Using games to improve our mental health.

Using games to feel happy and engaged is common, but i’m talking about the trend in games to improve our brain functions. For example, to reduce or delay Alzheimer’s disease. Online brain training is said to improve daily lives of people over-60. Researchers discovered that cognitive training can help with tasks such as using public transport, shopping, cooking and managing finances.

And now the AARP is also promoting brain games to stimulate the brain health of their clients. This helps show that almost any type of game that stimulates the mind can be helpful, it doesn’t have to be Candy Crush, but it’s very helpful to play more with online bingo.

Are freemium games on the way out?

Last week Activision (owners of the World and Warcraft and Call of Duty Black Ops franchises) is taking over King digital, the software manufacturer of Candy Crush. Activision has historically been weak in mobile and this acquisition helps a lot, especially since they already have half a billion monthly active users in their other games, this will push them into a new realm of influence in the entertainment industry.

I suspect that bringing in the talent and experience from King Digital will also help Activision’s existing content to make the migration to mobile in a more impactful way than they’ve been able to do thus far.

I think a more interesting take on this acquisition is from Geektime: Freemium games like “Candy Crush” may be on their way out. The thought is that gamers over time expect more from the games, a narrative that keeps them engaged and interested over the long haul.

New Slots to Keep Us Entertained

I take my wife to a casino a few times a year as a treat, we’re the typical couple that goes in expecting to lose a few hundred dollars but having a lot of fun while doing it. And hoping that this is the time we’ll hit it big. 🙂 Of course we’re also there for the food and entertainment, not just the gaming.

The only games we play though are slot machines. The reason i like them is they’re often like arcade games that pull you into a story and I keep feeding the machine to keep the story line going.

So it was more than a little interested when I saw some recent gaming news on slots – like the new Big Bang Theory based slot destined to the casino floors, and the CSI Slot coming to the mobile phone.

Big Bang Theory is in its ninth season on television and incredibly popular. It’s no surprise this game came about but just that it took so long! 🙂 BTW, they just rang in a new season (Spoilers)! Aristocrat Technologies’ Secret Sauce Studios spent two years obtaining the rights and then developing the game. The game is based on the characters and situations from the first three seasons of the show and the five main characters.

It’s been out on the casino floors for a couple of weeks now and I’ll definitely be looking for this one when the wife and I make a trek to the Snoqualmie casino outside Seattle. Until I can get out there though, I’ll be spending time online at checking out their new games and progressive jackpots.

See the Big Bang Theory in this video of. Around minute 16:30 the rental agreement comes out!

For slots on the phone, try out CSI Slots. CSI is…was a fantastic show, it changed the DNA of TV crime dramas, but it’s about to air it’s season finale after 15 years. CSI Slots will be available Sept 24 2015 on all the mobile platforms, and it allows players to follow along with interactive mysteries that were written by CSI writers. Join the CSI Team for a Vegas slots adventure. Find the evidence in high action bonus game, spin the real to catch the criminal and win big.

Is there money in eSports?

What is esports?

Professional gaming, also known as esports refers to a rapidly growing industry of competitive video gaming. In tournaments and events around the world, players compete in a variety of video games, often for money, hardware/software or even just bragging rights.  A few of the games which dominate esports at the moment are Call of Duty, League of Legends, and Counterstrike (with many others, just as popular).  Some are one person vs. another while others are teamwork games.  The only requirement is that the game is competitive, someone has to win the game and progress through a competition.

How do you make money in esports?

Very simply it works like any other sport: sponsorship.  A majority of players are members of a squad or team. This includes players who compete in one vs. one games.  By being part of a team, it is easy for a player to get a sponsorship. These sponsors are normally part of the gaming genre, such as gaming hardware/software, energy snacks or drinks, etc. Their company logos are put on their jerseys, and are prominently featured while they stream and play their games.  Streaming is actually the biggest way players receive their sponsorships. Players can earn money by live-streaming their practice games, or simply having their own live-streamed show via websites like “Twitch”, and having their sponsors logos featured on screen. Donations from fans also form an important role.

Some players like to wager on the outcome of certain championships or other gaming events.  Just like regular sports betting, there are potential “sure things” and definite risks involved, as you are betting real money on these events.  My recommendation?  Check out popular esports betting tips to stay on your game, and make out with potential big bucks!

You don’t have to agree with that professional video gaming is a real sport. Just know that everyone in the esports community is working hard to allow people to continue to make a living from what they enjoy doing. In the end, that’s all that really matters.

To cash out or not to cash out: The mechanics of online betting

by  Images_of_Money

The mechanics of betting has changed in the modern era. Whilst punters may have previously visited their local bookmakers to place their wager, many opt to place bets online rather than attend the offline establishments. Convenience and accessibility has played a huge role in the swing to online betting, but so have the promotions and bonuses that can be found online. Most importantly, most online bets allow punters the opportunity to cash out their bet midway through, settling the bet and taking a portion of the potential winnings.

Cash out has become increasingly popular on accumulator style bets. Many punters choose to take the money on accumulators as the likelihood of each team holding on for the victory in a five, six or seven-fold can be slim. Accumulators allow players to win larger sums of money from smaller stakes but require every club included in the bet to win. For example, if a user backed four nations to win matches in international betting markets, then they would have the opportunity to cash out midway through the bet or to leave it to run its course.

Many people have trouble deciding whether to cash out or to let their bet run and potentially claim a higher portion of winnings. The cash out opportunity will present players with a mere fraction of the odds, however, customers must weigh up the potential risk of letting an accumulator run as well as the upside of winnings. For example, if you place a fourfold and three of those teams are winning 2-0 but the fourth team is 1-0 up but are playing with 10 men and they are under severe pressure, it may be wise to cash out and take a cut of the earnings. After all, some winnings is better than no winnings. Some people often take to social media pages, such as @FootyAccums, to ask advice and other fellow punters for their thoughts on what to do.

Furthermore, punters often decide to stagger kick-off times in accumulators. This is a decision that allows people more time to decide if they would like to cash out or ‘let it ride’. Some people still have their doubts about cashing out and many question whether it is worth the money. If you have risked a small stake, is it worth cashing out for a small profit or should you be more tempted to let it ride and risk earning bigger winnings? It’s certainly a difficult call.

The staggered times often help users to decide but that doesn’t necessarily mean they make the correct choice. For larger stakes, the temptation to cash out becomes greater as the cash out value is ultimately much higher. This season, plenty of punters will be celebrating profit throughout the upcoming football season and you can expect Ian Beale to appear all over social media as people boast about their success.

Get The Tech Edge When You’re Betting

For anyone who places bets frequently, the best choice for where to get those bets is online. Not only do you cash in on free bets occasionally, but you’ll also find the best odds that are available. It’s convenient and you can bet as easily on your phone as on the PC, so wherever you are, you can get a bet on at a moment’s notice.

Betting exchanges such as Betfair make even more sense if you want to cut out the middle man, as there is no bookie, just a commission to pay on winning bets. Using an exchange also allows you to take a contrarian position and make a profit when there are lots of sentimental bets backing England to win the next international football match, or hopes are high (unrealistically so) for England’s chances in the upcoming Rugby World Cup, for example.

But there is a way to improve your profit margins even further, and that’s through the use of the betting apps that have been designed work in tandem, such as BBS Schedule or MarketFeederPro which can scan the market for the best margins. There are lots of different apps available, and they all facilitate your betting system through a number of different features, such as one-click betting, charting, ladder trading and fast price refreshes.

Some apps also feature a triggered betting function. Using the function of triggered betting you can save both money and time as you have much greater control over the staking plans and systems you’re employing. At a superficial level, triggered betting means you can set a stake limit, meaning that your stake remains the same whichever sports market you’re betting on. Similarly, you can set the app to only back or only lay outcomes in particular markets. Another way you can set triggered betting is to always back the favourite, regardless of which sport, or set it so that bets are only triggered when a selection falls into a certain range. Triggered betting reacts more quickly than you would be able to when there is a sudden market change. This is often particularly relevant in a big horse race, such as The Grand National or the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

If you’re interested in moving your betting up a few gears, then a small investment in a betting app subscription could be really helpful. There are plenty of tutorials on how to get the most out of a betting app, and many have simulation mode so that you can test out different systems or triggered betting plans without risking real cash. Then, whenever you’re ready, you can switch to placing real money bets and, hopefully, watch your profits soar.

Gambling Research Reveals the Psychology of Expertise

The psychology of gambling – what it is that makes it so appealing – is a little understood phenomenon. Some things, of course are self-evident: we all like easy money; we all enjoy the sensation of winning, and we all enjoy a sense of playful recreation. These simple explanations hold good for just about every human society that we have any knowledge of. People like gambling – but that doesn’t explain why we seem to like it so much.

Increasingly, research into what it is that people find so attractive is adding to our understanding of this seemingly universal human impulse. In the process, we are learning more and more about the fundamental drivers of our more general behaviour. In this sense, studying gambling offers a window into the psychology of market behaviours and other mass phenomena.

For example, a study published in the journal Psychopathology, by Professor Pinhas Dannon and Doctor Ronen Huberfeld of the Beer Yaakov Mental Health Centre in Tel Aviv showed that when it comes to betting on sports there is little or no advantage to be gained from ‘expert’ knowledge of the sport itself. This is obviously a finding that will have sports fans scratching their heads. How can this be?

The researchers had three groups of subjects place bets to predict the outcome of 16 second round Champions League soccer games. One group comprised professional sports gamblers, the second comprised knowledgeable soccer fans who did not ordinarily bet and the third was made up of people with no prior interest in either betting or soccer.

The results were surprisingly even. When it came to the crunch all three groups were comparable in their success rates. In fact, the two highest performing subjects came from the third – ‘ignorant’ – group. The researchers concluded that there is a mythical quality to ‘expert knowledge’ which aficionados get a kick out of.

What that means in practical terms is that if you are tempted to back a horse on the basis of its name – if you are attracted to Irish Saint at the forthcoming Cheltenham Festival for example – then you can put your money down safe in the knowledge that in reality you know every bit as much as the next man or woman. And much as they will be getting a kick out of thinking that they know something the rest of the world has missed – and we all know that feeling – you will be enjoying a taste of schadenfreude on a grand scale.

Research elsewhere however has shown that there is a peculiarly shared, social aspect to gambling that was previously unrecognised. Professor Josep Marco-Pallarés, a psychologist at the University of Barcelona, writing in BMC Neuroscience, suggests that when we watch others gamble, our brains respond as though we are gambling, too. His research used EEG brain wave technology to measure respondent’s neural reactions to other people’s gambling. He found that even if a subject was not betting themselves, they experienced the same mental response as gamblers they were watching closely.

So much for the schadenfreude!

What this points to an innate herd instinct to share in the emotional reactions of others. And this, perhaps takes us back to where we started. Gambling, like sport, is a fundamentally social activity. It’s appeal lies in the ability to generate that deep social connection between people. It may pit them into adversarial but, like boxers who embrace at the end of a gruelling bout, they will fundamentally recognise the profound value they see in coming together in the first place – however confrontational that might appear at first glance.

As numerous sages down the years have noted, the business of gambling and the gamble that is business are much the same thing. Difficult as it may be to swallow, the research into gambling poses some searching questions for anyone who takes their professional expertise too seriously.

Professor Pinhas Dannon’s and Doctor Ronen Huberfeld’s findings concerning the ‘mythical quality’ of expert knowledge are summarised here.

PS4 or Xbox One: Who is the winner?

xbox one vs. ps4

This is going to be a pretty tough comparison to make. This is mainly down to the fact that there is very little in terms of noticeable differences between the PS4 and Xbox One. You have to realize that console games have become a whole lot more ‘PC like’ over the years, and that means there is very little difference in terms of hardware. That being said; the PlayStation 4 has drastically outsold the Xbox One in most regions of the world. This means that gamers have spoken. The PS4 is better than the Xbox One. Just why though? Well; let’s take a little look, shall we?

I would start with the processor here, although to be fair the Xbox One does actually boast a considerably better processor than the PlayStation 4. In all fairness however; much of the processing power is actually taken up by the Kinect device, so whilst there is a 10% boost of power for the Xbox One, it is brought down to about the same during those ‘Kinect’ games. That being said; the processor in this day and age is not the most important part. The most important part is the graphics processor.

I am not going to dive into the actual graphics card in each. This will make sense to barely any readers (no offence here, it is just that the graphics cards are not generic). There is a roughly 10% higher amount of graphics capabilities on the PlayStation 4 than the Xbox One. This means that the PlayStation 4 is able to render slightly better graphics and perform at slightly higher frame rates. If you want a more in-depth comparison on the specs of the two consoles, GoWin wrote a good piece about it back in August.

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One both have 8GB of RAM. The PlayStation 4 opts for the slightly higher performing GDDR5 memory though (i.e. the read and write access of the RAM is a great deal higher). You do however have to be aware that GDDR5 technology is still in its earliest stages. Even the most avid of PC Builders are not going down that route nowadays, due to the fact that it is still relatively unstable. That being said, from a RAM perspective the PS4 is slightly better than the Xbox One.

One of the key things which separates the PlayStation 4 from the Xbox One is the fact that most cross-platform games nowadays tend to utilize the PlayStation 4 as the lead development console. This means that many of the games that are developed for both consoles have to be ported over to the Xbox One. This in turn means that the games are never that well-optimized. This means that if the Xbox One did actually boast a better spec it would not perform as well as the PlayStation 4. We had this problem in the last generation. The PlayStation 3 was considerably better than the Xbox 360 in terms of spec, but the Xbox 360 was easier to develop for and thus the PlayStation 3 had a ton of poor quality ‘ports’. – 3 Reasons to Play at NetEnt Casinos

Strangest Games of 2014

2014 was a great year for gamers. The heavy hitters were out in full force with some of the most eagerly anticipated titles flying onto – then as quickly off – the shelves, including Destiny, Alien Isolation, Far Cry 4 and South Park’s The Stick of Truth. However, 2014 was also responsible for some of the most bizarre and surreal games ever to grace our consoles or computers. Take a look at this outlandish and extraordinary selection that covers everything from romantic avian encounters to life as a slice of wholesome white. So whip out your paysafecard – allowing for easy and anonymous payment for online gaming – and enter the strange and often humorous world of surreal gaming.

  • Goat Simulator I don’t think there is a child in the world who, at some point during those formative years, hasn’t dreamed the greatest dream of all. And that dream, of course, is to frolic in the meadows, conquer the snow capped mountains and generally get up to unending suburban mischief as a………… goat. Thankfully, all of those flights of fancy can now be realised with the bizarre, yet utterly compelling, Goat Simulator from Coffee Stain Studios. Priced at just $10, your bovidaen alter-ego can run, ram, jump and lick his way through this sandbox of “udder” madness. Get it now and rediscover your inner “kid”.
  • I am Bread The best thing since sliced bread is, in fact, I am Bread. Use your loaf and navigate through the many pitfalls of a mundane family home during your quest to become toasted. Based around a tricky physics engine that creates some truly addictive game play, I am Bread costs just $10 and has been a big hit with those who enjoyed Bossa Studio’s Surgeon Simulator from 2013. The graphics and the story are great too. Are you bready?
  • Hatoful Boyfriend This 2014 release is actually a HD remake of an older Japanese game that puts a strange avian twist on traditional otome dating games. You take control of a teenage girl who has recently enrolled in a school populated exclusively by birds. Your job is to navigate this multilayerd visual novel by dating pigeon pupils to a variety of different conclusions. However, a dark undercurrent propels the story forward, keeping you on your tridactyl toes at all times.
  • Jazzpunk Created by Necrophone Games and published by Adultswim, it’s no real surprise that Jazzpunk has made it onto the list. A single person adventure game to rival any surreal cinema from Gilliam or Lynch, the plot centres around a cold-war-esque espionage agency that employs your character, Polyblank, in the important business of pigeon smuggling and cowboy assassination alongside a healthy splash of cross-dressing – all of which is fuelled by an apparent prescription drug addiction. Filled with classic mini-games and abstract graphics, Jazzpunk costs just $20.
