Steve_Jobs What Me Worry

Massive disruptions in the activation service for the new worldwide, 20 country, rollout of the new 3G iPhones are stretching the patience of Apple’s faithful users and causing the PR team to go silent instead of damage control.

It appears that people waited for hours in line to purchase the phone yesterday but the activation server was offline, so the store employees told buyers to go home and activate over iTunes. People had to walk out of the store with an unusable phone – Strike 1.

From home, an unknown number of folks found the iTunes service was also down worldwide and unable to activate the phone either – Strike 2.

So the disgruntled iPhone owners head back to the store for help, and according to ABC News it was Strike 3:

Long lines of disgruntled customers wrapped around city blocks across the globe today as Apple scrambled to fix a glitch in iTunes that prevented iPhone acolytes from activating the next-generation phones they had waited hours, even days, to buy.

What’s interesting is that for the iPhone v1 launched quite a while ago, initial service related glitches dogged the gadget but it was AT&T’s fault, and Apple wasted no time in telling the world it was all on AT&T back then.

Guess what, this time AT&T wasted no time pointing the finger where the blame rested for v2, as CNN reports:

On Friday, AT&T was quick to pin the blame on Apple. “There’s a worldwide issue with iTunes that Apple is working to resolve,” an AT&T representative said in an e-mail. Apple did not respond to a request for comment.

Even with this glitch, I believe it’ll be a minor blip and the 3G iPhone will be a home run. If you don’t have Apple stock, this is a great time to jump aboard. I did before the first iPhone came out and the stock has doubled since then!

So, did you get the new phone? What was your first experience with it? Got a pic to share of you and your lovable little gadget?
