Get Smart was one of my favorite shows as a kid; it first appeared in 1965 and I started watching it in reruns in the early 70’s (I’m dating myself). It was the brainchild of comedic legend Mel Brooks, while the show revolved around Maxwell Smart (Don Adams) the bumbling secret agent, it was his faithful assistant Agent 99 played by Barbara Feldon that really made the show special for me. She was smart, attractive and always the ’straight man’ to Don Adams’ goofy antics. She was the one that really saved the day, if they were cartoons he’d be Bart and she’d be Lisa.

The remake to Get Smart is released to theaters in about 4 weeks and from the trailers I think there’s a good chance it’ll do the original show justice. Though I’m completely sold already on Steve Carell as Smart, I’m not so sure about Anne Hathaway as Agent 99. We’ll just have to bide our time for the next month and see, but while you wait you can visit the official Get Smart site for some KAOS/Control fun.
The trailer poster is at the bottom, instead of providing the remake’s trailer on Geeknews we’ll go old school and reminisce about the original from 40 years ago by watching the intro sequence to the first season of Get Smart…it’s classic:
Plot to the remake of 2008:
Maxwell Smart (Steve Carell) is on a mission to thwart the latest plot for world domination by the evil crime syndicate known as KAOS. When the headquarters of U.S. spy agency Control is attacked and the identities of its agents compromised, the Chief (Alan Arkin) has no choice but to promote his ever-eager analyst Maxwell Smart, who has always dreamt of working in the field alongside stalwart superstar Agent 23 (Dwayne Johnson).
Smart is partnered instead with the lovely-but-lethal veteran Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway). Given little field experience and even less time, Smart—armed with nothing but a few spy-tech gadgets and his unbridled enthusiasm—must thwart the doomsday plans of KAOS head Siegfried (Terance Stamp).
