Looks to me like an old, hand-cranked winch. A larger model than the one at my cottage, but the same thing.

Graham,
You have a cottage? I wish I had a cottage! :)

This pic has me stumped, I think you’re right it’s probably some type of winch, do we need to guess what it was used for?

Well, my parents have a cottage. :P

Our winch is used to haul the boat up on our boat ramp.

This one, well, it could be anything.

Andy, Don’t forget that we Canucks live in a country where 90% of the population is squeezed in a 100 km wide band of land… so there is plenty of space for Cottages. My father lives in one now and my mother is moving in one too! (And I do refer to a ‘Summer cottage’ which are winterized to be usable all-year round)

Graham is exactly right. This is an old rusted boat winch, used to pull boats out of the water and safely onto a beach. Excellent guess!

Hooray! What do I win?

Nothing? What a gyp! :P

Ask Andy 8) He’s the one holding all the cards - I’m sure he can offer you something!

Something to say?
