A few days ago Microsoft announced the availability of the first Community Technology Preview (CTP) of the SQL Server 2005 Driver for PHP.  In essence it’s a PHP 5 extension that allows the reading and writing of SQL Server data from within PHP scripts.

The PHP Driver delivers an API designed-to-enable robust and scalable integration with SQL Server for PHP applications deployed on the Windows platform. They envision working the PHP Community to ensure that the SQL Server 2005 Driver for PHP is a consideration for PHP developers and part of Zend?s core PHP offering.

The SQL driver for PHP team blog was just started, you can find a little bit of info there or you may get the straight skinny in their forums.
